There are several different types of adoption available in California. We assist in adult, independent and stepparent adoptions. The most common is a stepparent adoption whereby a stepparent will request to adopt his/her spouse's child or children. California now permits registered Domestic Partners to adopt under the simplified step-parent adoption process. When the non-custodial parent will provide his/her consent to the adoption, all documents may be prepared for filing with the Court, with the assistance of the County Department of Public Social Services. In the event no consent is obtainable from the non-custodial parent, all litigation documents may also be prepared by the office including, but not limited to, the Petition to terminate the parental rights of the absent parent.
