Pursuant
to recent California legislation, same-sex relationships are now
recognized in California and afford individuals various rights and
responsibilities. Partners of the same sex who are 18 years of age,
emancipated, or heterosexual couples with a partner over the age
of 62 may register as domestic partners. Registration bestows certain
limited rights. As of January 1, 2005, registered domestic partners
will have the same California rights and responsibilities as married
spouses with the exception of certain tax categorization and certain
long term healthcare liability. We are able to assist in the completion
and filing of domestic partnership registration documents, as well
as terminating existing partnerships. As of January 1, 2005, the
termination process of a registered domestic partnership will be
the same as for married people.
